Always reach someone
Two evergreen numbers that work for any week of any season. The accompanying BRMS staff per concert is listed in the schedule above.
Getting There + What to Expect
Show Time
Show runs 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Rhorer Plaza in downtown Baton Rouge. The BRMS performer goes on for the National Anthem at 5:00 PM and again during the setbreak around 6:20 PM.
Parking
For audience and parents: free street parking is plentiful before 5 PM. The St. James Episcopal area, a few blocks away, almost always has open spots.
For performers with instruments: use the lot across from City Hall on St. Louis St. Approach via North Blvd or Government St, east-to-west. Avoid River Road. Park at the back on the grassy area.
Weather
Outdoor venue, no indoor backup. If the show is cancelled for weather, Doug texts and emails performers and parents as soon as the call is made and rebooks for the next available season.
Map
Doug's map for performers and audience. Updated each season.
Two Quick Forms Before Your Friday
Once you are scheduled, BRMS will email you the intake form. Closer to your date, you will get the upload form for your backing track if you are using one.
Form A: Performer Intake
About 5 minutes. Tell us your songs, your accompaniment plan, a quick bio for the page, and any sound preferences. This makes the day easy for everyone (you, the emcee, the sound company).
Form B: Track Upload
Upload your .mp3 backing track. The sound company pulls files directly from this folder, so we never have to email tracks. Send at least one week before your date.
Doug's tip: the sound is best when your track has the volume reasonable (peaks under 0 dB) and starts cleanly. The PSS Sound team is excellent. They make us sound great when the track sounds great going in.
Track Folder + Inputs Cheat Sheet
Each Friday's track lands in a shared Drive folder. Open the folder once and bookmark it. The folder name and contents stay consistent across the season.
Inputs by accompaniment style
Each performer's record on the schedule above lists the technical inputs for that show. The standard patterns:
- Singer with track: 1× vocal mic, stereo DI from playback (PSS iPad or BRMS device).
- Singer self-accompanied on guitar: 1× vocal mic, 1× DI for guitar (or 1× SM57 if amp).
- Singer self-accompanied on piano: 1× vocal mic, stereo DI from keyboard.
- Singer with instructor on instrument: 1× vocal mic, plus appropriate input for that instrument.
