New to BRMS? Perfect. Young Band Nation is open to every teen in Baton Rouge who's ready to perform โ€” you don't have to take lessons or classes with us to join.

What is Young Band Nation?

Real performers. Real rehearsals. Real stages.

Think of YBN as a school of performance inside Baton Rouge Music Studios. Whether you're in a full band, an acoustic duo, a vocal group, or a solo act, we help you rehearse, build a set, and get on stage โ€” an average of 40+ live performances a year across Baton Rouge. Our instructors coach and guide, but the students own the show. This is where playing or singing turns into performing.

๐ŸŽธ

How it works

From first jam to full set

01

Come to YBN Connect

Show up to our free monthly meet-up, jam with other players, and tell us what you're looking for. No commitment, no pressure.

02

Get placed in a band

We match you into the right lineup โ€” a building band finding its sound, or an established band ready for bigger stages.

03

Rehearse & perform

Rehearse weekly, learn your set, and start playing shows around Baton Rouge all year long.

Two ways to grow

Building bands are newer groups learning to sound great together โ€” finding a set list and becoming a real unit, with a few performances along the way.

Established bands have put in the work and earned the bigger gigs โ€” festivals and higher-profile shows on top of the regular monthly lineup, while mentoring the younger bands coming up.

Start at YBN Connect

YBN Connect is our free monthly meet-up for teens who play, sing, or want to. Come play, meet other performers, and get to know our team โ€” no audition, no pressure. It's also how we get to know you: we'll let you know honestly when you're ready for the program, and if you're not quite there yet, we'll help you build a plan to get there. Either way, you're learning and performing alongside new friends.

Good to know

Questions, answered

Do I have to be a BRMS student to join?

Nope. Young Band Nation is open to any Baton Rouge teen who's ready to perform โ€” whether you take lessons with us, take them somewhere else, or are fully self-taught. If you can hold your own on a song, come find your fit.

How do I know if I'm ready?

Come to a YBN Connect and we'll figure it out together โ€” no audition, no pressure. You'll play and learn in a group setting either way, right alongside new friends. If you're ready for the official program, we'll let you know. If you're not quite there yet, we'll be honest about it and build a plan to help you get ready โ€” and you're always welcome to keep growing with us at YBN Connect in the meantime.

Do I have to take lessons?

Not at all. YBN stands on its own as our primary program. Weekly one-on-one lessons are an optional add-on for performers who want to grow faster โ€” and if you add them, your YBN rate drops to $45/week.

What if I'm not in a band yet?

That's exactly what YBN Connect is for. Come to a free monthly meet-up, play with other performers, and we'll help you find your fit โ€” a band, a duo, or a solo act.

How good do I need to be?

You should be able to make it through a song on your instrument or voice. You don't need to be a pro โ€” you need to be ready to play with other people and grow on stage.

What instruments and formats fit?

Guitar, bass, drums, keys, vocals โ€” the whole rock band. Beyond full bands, we also build duos, solo acts, and vocal groups depending on what serves you best.

Where and when does it all happen?

Rehearsals and YBN Connect happen at BRMS Creative, 11919 Sunray Ave. Performances happen at venues and festivals around Baton Rouge throughout the year.
